The Halmerton Crossing, volume three - PLANIGMA

The book

  • Nine nights to New York. Halmerton House is sold, its debts are not, and the emeralds sail for a buyer in New York in the strongroom of the Halmerton Line's last ship. Inspector Greaves is aboard for a crossing, not for a case.
  • Sixteen cases in two acts. Open Water and Landfall, a five-by-five deck and a six-by-six one, two murders, and nobody who can leave the ship.
  • Stands on its own. Four faces from Halmerton House remember what happened there; nothing you need to solve a case depends on it.
  • A shorter book, a lower price. Sixteen cases instead of fifty; the same plans, the same proof, the same room to write. Also coming in the collected edition with volumes one and two.

About the book

Nine nights at sea, and nowhere to go

Halmerton House is sold, its debts are not, and the emeralds sail for a buyer in New York in the strongroom of the Halmerton Line's last ship. Inspector Greaves is aboard for a crossing, not for a case. It does not stay that way.

Sixteen chapters, each ending in a crime on board, each crime a case on the facing page. Act one, Open Water, is played on five-by-five decks; act two, Landfall, on six-by-six. Nobody can leave the ship, and two of the passengers will not reach New York.

The book stands on its own: the rules are explained at the start, and the four faces from Halmerton House bring their memories, not your clues. Every case has a hint after the cases and a full solution; the seventeenth, on the pier, keeps its solution online.

It is a shorter book than the first two: sixteen cases instead of fifty, with the same plans, the same proof and the same room to write.

The house party

Fourteen people. One house, three books.

They live, work or stay at Halmerton House. Volume one sets them in fifty rooms; in volume two the will is read and the house turns on itself; four of them sail for New York in volume three. Who is likely to be in the cellar at midnight, who never goes near the library: by the end, you will know.

Your extras

The seventeenth case: the last morning, alongside the pier

The last case in the book is told as a story and keeps its solution off the page. Enter the code printed on the final page and one email brings you the full proof. Nothing else, ever.

The code alone is not enough. The way in is the door described on the last page of the book: solve what you find there, and the door asks for your email and the code.

Go to the last case

Solved a case and want to be sure before you turn to the solutions? Every case has a check code beside its hints: Check your solution.
